Galveston

Myron and I spent a week resting and pretending we're normal. Myron rented a car and a room. We had a grand time celebrating
Myron's 70th birthday. Denise, Myron’s daughter flew out to celebrate Myron’s b-day on the 14th. We went to a very nice dinner at Willie G's on the strand in old town Galveston. We were joined by Carolina Amengual and Carlos Javier Sanchez from the Daily Times in Galveston. Carlos was the photographer, he took about 30 photos. Carolina was the reporter; she spent 2 hours interviewing us during dinner. The article came out in Sunday’s paper.  It was a great article. We very much enjoyed meeting both Carolina and Carlos.  Myron had a wonderful time. It was great to have Denise there. I flew back home in California to celebrate my sister Kim's 40th b-day. It was so good to be home again. As I have said I'm homesick. I miss my friends and family. We were able to surprise Kim, it was so good to be with my family again. I'm very fortunate to come from a very loving, close family. I returned back to Galveston on the 18th and we began riding again on the 19th. As good as it was to go back home, it is also good to be on the road again. We met some great people in Galveston; we have someone we would like to say a special thank you to Nancy Thompson see special thank you for details.                          See Article in the Paper!!!!

ON THE ROAD AGAIN

After a week of rest and pretending we're normal, we're on the road again. It feels good to be riding again. We left Galveston via the ferry. Just after we boarded the ferry the captain sent a crewmember to ask who we were and how far we're traveling. We have been recognized several times today. People asked if we are the ones they read about in the paper. We had a short easy day; it is a great way to begin getting into the routine again. We camped at a public boat ramp about 7 miles east of Crystal Beach, TX. it is a good camp. We have tugs pushing large barges only yards from us.

SPAGHETTI DINNER

We got up after a great night sleep and watched barges go by pushed by tugboats. We stopped at the Gulf way Motel and restaurant in Highland, TX. Nancy in Galveston said to be sure to stop in to the Gulf way and say hi to Hellen and Harold. We did and they were wonderful people. Hellen made us pancakes and Harold kept our coffee cups full. We found out that their grandson Dustin was in a bad accident two days ago. Dustin lives with them with his mother Rebecca. Dustin will undergo surgery today to fix two broken hips and put a rod in his leg.(our thoughts and prayers are with you Dustin). After a wonderful visit, Hellen sent us on our way with two large containers of homemade spaghetti. We had an enjoyable day of riding thru SE Texas. We are defiantly getting into more humid Marshy environment. We saw about 10 snakes that had been hit on the road. We also saw turtles about the size of dinner plates. We have been seeing more and more armadillos, and opossums. Soon I'm sure we will see fireflies. We are being attacked by mosquitoes the past two nights and mornings. We are camped pleasure island; it has nothing to do with the nude beach we were near earlier today. Pleasure Island is a city park in Port Arthur, TX. We are about 7 miles from Louisiana.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM

Today is my mom's 59th birthday. It is always hard to be away from family especially during special times like birthdays. I was fortunate to be able to see mom this past weekend when I flew home.

HELLO LOUISIANA

We crossed into Louisiana at about 10:00 am today. We stopped to take pictures of us entering Louisiana and to say good-bye to Texas. It somehow felt weird leaving Texas. We have become good friends. We were in Texas for over a month and 1,200 miles or more. Texas was and her People were very good to us. I know I will always carry good memories of her. Not more than 10 minutes into Louisiana I saw my first alligator, it was 5 or 6 foot long. I counted 11 gators today. How is it that I could see so many gators in such a short time just over state line? I know there are gators in Texas, but I never saw a one. Gators know nothing of state lines. But I saw 11 of them today.  It doesn’t make any sense. We had headwinds today but I really didn’t mind them at all. They however, bothered Myron today. It was a beautiful clear day in the mid 70's. Glorious weather to ride the gulf. We stopped in a small town called Johnsons Bayou to rest and eat. Myron purchased his goods and got screwed! Just after getting everything he sat down only to jump up yelling what was that. At a closer look we realized Myron say on a board with a screw sticking up out of it. I laughed to Myron’s disapproval and said you just got screwed in the_ _ _. He turned his butt towards me and said did it get me. I said yes there is a hole. He said "no did it get me". I said I don’t know and I ain’t gonna find out neither. We had a good laugh and were on our way. We wanted to camp on the beach just outside of Cameron, La. But we miss judged out distance. The map shows the beach just out of town, but the locals say it is 15 miles out of town. We didn’t have that much daylight left. We were fortunate enough to have found OUR LADY STAR OF THE SEA CATHOLIC CHURCH. Father Louis Melancon was kind enough to allow us to set up our tents near a kitchen and restrooms that were open to us all night. THANK YOU FATHER LOUIS MELANCON AT OUR LADY STAR OF THE SEA CATHOLIC CHURCH IN CAMERON, LOUISIANA
